The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Sharjah Police arrested a gang of eight Africans who committed crimes of counterfeiting cash, using them to commit frauds.

The Director of the CID at Sharjah Police, Colonel Omar Abu Al Zoud, stated that the CID had received confirmed information about some people counterfeiting banknotes.

Based on this information, security teams specializing in economic crimes were formed to arrest the gang.

Colonel Abu Al Zoud indicated that the monitoring and follow-up team identified the gangsters who had recently arrived in the UAE, and defrauded victims by making them believe that they had the ability to double the money, and also selling fake foreign money at a value lower than its real value in the local market, to get original currency.

Abu Al Zoud added that the team set up a trap to arrest the suspects and by searching their homes, fake banknotes of foreign currencies, technical equipment and devices used in counterfeiting currencies were found. Tools and inks prepared for the same purpose were seized, as well.

Abu Al Zoud praised the team and its efforts in quickly apprehending the gangsters, despite the cautious and minute method they followed to counterfeit the money and the extreme caution in their movements.

He called on the public to continuously cooperate and not hesitate to report any suspicious matter around them to eliminate similar crimes.
