Hong Kong |Ten caught for Money Exchange shop robberies
Ten people were arrested in connection with two robbery cases in Yau Ma Tei, targeting money exchange businesses.
Three of the suspects attempted to rob a man of US$500,000 on Nathan Road last Tuesday, two of which have been charged with robbery and will appear in Kowloon City Court on December 17 for mention.
Another robbery happened near Waterloo Road on September 28, as staffers from the money exchange shop carrying HK$15 million were attacked by four people armed with choppers.
The gang managed to drive off with HK$5.3 million. Police subsequently arrested seven suspects –six men and a woman– aged between 21 and 28, on Friday, and recovered HK$300,000.
Officials suspected that there is a connection between the two cases, but believed that they had cracked down on a syndicate.
Detective Chief Inspector Tong Kam-wai said more arrests could follow.
